There were four matches in Round 11 of Betfred League One this weekend. Three were a series of tight encounters, with the fourth seeing Cornwall claim their first home win of the 2024 campaign.
In Cumbria, Workington came close against Hunslet, but it would be the West Yorkshire side who held out to claim their fourth consecutive win.
The visitors had led 4-24 before a Town comeback would follow soon after. Hunslet were unable to convert possession into points in the second half however, and a Town try ten minutes from time from Jason Mossop set up a nervy ending.
Diligence in defence in the closing stages would see Hunslet take home the two points.
Keighley Cougars made it three wins on the spin with a victory at the Alexander Stadium. The Cougars were already boosted by their win over table toppers Oldham in Round 10 and continued their fine form against Midlands Hurricanes to remain top of the league table.
Danny Craven came up with the match-winner for Oldham, as his side returned to winning ways in Wales.
North Wales Crusaders fought hard against Sean Long’s men and had led 24-8 at Colwyn Bay. But three late tries including one from Craven would bring the scores level - as it looked to be anyone’s game.
Then, one minute from time, Craven would win it for the Roughyeds with a drop goal in dramatic fashion, as they continue to go toe to toe with Keighley in the top two.
Meanwhile, it was a memorable afternoon for Cornwall, who produced an outstanding performance on home soil against Newcastle Thunder.
The Choughs secured their first home win of 2024 with a dominant second half showing - in which Mike Abbott’s side scored 24 unanswered points, including a brace from Cameron Brown.
